Chaz Gibson French, known professionally as Chaz French, is an American rapper born in May 1991 in Northeast Washington, D.C. His journey in music has been marked by both challenges and triumphs.
Growing up, French’s exposure to music was primarily limited to gospel, as hip-hop was not allowed in his household. His early life was marked by frequent moves and personal challenges, including his father’s imprisonment during his childhood. Despite attending multiple high schools across different states, French eventually dropped out, though he later completed a GED program.
French’s path to a music career was not straightforward. He experienced a period of homelessness in Texas before his talent was recognized by established rapper Phil Adé. This connection led to French signing with 368 Music Group, marking the beginning of his professional music career.
In October 2014, French released his debut mixtape “Happy Belated,” which featured collaborations with artists like GoldLink and Wale. His career reached a new milestone in 2017 when he signed with major labels Capitol and Motown. On July 14, 2017, French released his debut studio album “True Colors,” a 17-track project featuring collaborations with artists such as Casey Veggies, Phil Ade, Shy Glizzy, and BJ The Chicago Kid.
French’s music often reflects his personal experiences and values. As a father himself, he has used his platform to address issues like fatherhood, evidenced by an open letter he wrote to fathers on Father’s Day.
Chaz French continues to be an emerging voice in the hip-hop scene, known for his authentic approach to storytelling through his music
